Underwater photography – a new venture…and an update!
OK yes, I know it’s been a long time since the first and initial opening post…but I’ve been busy! Getting ready to move, arranging for my house rewire, work has been manic, going on holiday (the life of leisure, who’d have it?!) but also, I never did promise how often I’d post, just that I would.
However, I may have mentioned on here already that I’m a Scuba diver and its become an addiction.
I’ve brought along with me a new toy (which I have been completely blown away by) a Mirrorless camera, namely the Olympus E-PL5 and associated PT-EP10 housing.
I bought this camera on the recommendation from various sources. I needed something that handled well in low light, fast AF, easy to use, lightweight, small and good to travel with.
After much deliberation, reading, comparisons and conversations with my cat regarding the matter, I settled for the Olympus.
And how pleased I have been with it? Massively! The camera has ticked all the boxes and performs fantastically when in it’s primary role…below the surface 🙂
Have some photos.
Funny thing about Clownfish…they aren’t funny at all! Actually quite aggressive…damn you Pixar!
Underwater photography has certainly proved to be an entirely new challenge! about 70% of what you know above the surface goes straight out of the window. You still apply the basic principles when possible of course, like rule of thirds etc. Along with trying to get your buoyancy as good as possible so you don’t knock the hermit crab off a rock behind you while focusing in on a Nudi branch, not that I did that or anything…ehem…I’m sure he was fine afterwards.
Short version is that I absolutely love it, and anyone looking to give it a go, then do it.
That covers it for the time being, on a quick side note though, I will be merging this website into my main http://jacobellwood.co.uk and actually putting a blog button on there which will link to this website, and then add a way back, both websites become one…plus it might actually push me into blogging more!
