It’s been a long time since I last did a blog post, too long in fact. But here we are now. A lot has been happening (you know, for a change) but to quickly summarise…
- Took a last minute 3 day visit to Portugal to see Ana’s family.
- We went to Guernsey on a diving trip
- I shot my final wedding before we head off
- We went to Portugal again!
So it’s all been a bit of a whirlwind. During this time as well we have been planning our big trip more and more.
Initially we said we would be heading to Dahab and use that as a base of operations, but the more we looked into it, we realise this just wasn’t feasible at this current moment in time (going by flight paths and everything else) so we’re doing things a little differently….we’ll definitely be visiting Dahab throughout August & September next year, we’ll just be visiting many other locations beforehand 🙂
I’m keeping things a bit close to the chest for the time being and will be posting updates as it all happens. What I can confirm now is…we leave the UK on November 9th, we arrive in Melbourne, Australia on November 19th. It’s all booked and confirmed! We are on the official countdown, and at the time of writing we are only 45 days from saying goodbye to the UK for a long time!
When we booked the tickets an unreal sense of excitement and “oh my god…” came over us, it’s hard to describe, I needed a beer afterwards, it was an amazing feeling.
Right now we are in the process of ‘planning’ Australia and what we’re doing there.
We’ve been thinking a lot about what we’re taking away with us in terms of clothing, equipment etc and we have been making progress!
After lots of research I decided on an Osprey Farpoint 55 backpack. I’m very impressed with it.
The additional detachable day pack was the deal maker for me.
Next up is footwear. We did a lot of hunting around and decided to buy from Vivobarefoot. All the footwear arrived today and we’re very very impressed by them. I picked up a pair of waterproof hiking trainers along with a pair of the ‘Ultra II’ (the ones with all the holes in) to wear pretty much everywhere.
Ana grabbed a pair of the Ultras plus a pair of flats, she already has a pair of suitable trainers.
I won’t give a photo for every single thing we’ve bought, but it’s safe to say the backpacks are slowly filling out 🙂
Here are some photos however, of our recent trips.
That’s all for now. I’ll be doing another post before we go, I’m also looking to embedding a map to hover at the top of the home page to show where we are and our route as well.
Bye for now!
